Physical Therapist H. Kate Huckert, DPT works with two women on Pilates rehab machines

About H. Kate Huckert, DPT

Kate received her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from A.T. Still University in 2009, her Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from Angelo State University in 2003, and her Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Texas Woman’s University in 1996. A world traveler, Kate lived and worked in rural Alaska for several years before returning to Oregon. She is married to another physical therapist, and they have two school-aged children.

Kate practices Osteopathic Manual Therapy techniques using teachings adapted from Loren Rex, D.O. of the original URSA Institute and its skilled clinical mentors. Within this highly complex approach is an awareness that all systems in the body are connected, and that care focusing on just one part will not likely be as effective as looking at the whole person’s function. Treatments using this philosophy pull in a wide variety of scientifically proven methods from various experts for specific concerns including trigger point release, joint mobilization, muscle energy techniques and soft tissue care. Ongoing assessment and reassessment of treatment effectiveness is a primary component of this program. Trigger point techniques include Jones Strain-Counterstrain, Travell’s, Chapman’s Neurolymphatic Reflexes and others. Muscle energy techniques used are from Fred Mitchell Sr. & Jr’s teachings and their endorsement of Loren Rex D.O.’s adaptations. Treatment techniques and their application are continuously being updated with scientific study & clinical practice.

Kate completed a two-year course of study with Pacific Northwest Pilates of the Stott Pilates for Rehabilitation method including Mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and Barrel equipment use. Meta Physical Therapy & Pilates has a fully equipped Stott Pilates Rehab Studio and all the fun props to make your exercise program safe and effective. Major benefits from this training include learning how to feel and to use core muscles essential in daily life. Pilates in a private setting can be incredibly meaningful to help increase strength and function with proper posture to prevent injury and pain. It is an excellent foundation to your independent or athletic exercise program. It provides an effective “back to life” functional component to therapy offered at Meta, using mindful movement and intelligent mind-body awareness training to make your new function stronger and more effective.  More information about Stott Pilates is available at: www.merrithew.com or www.pnwp.com for excellent classes in Portland.

Kate also practices the J.F.B. Myofascial Release method for care of pain and soft-tissue dysfunction. This gentle and progressive manual therapy method is ideal for care of pain, soft-tissue dysfunction and trauma. She feels very comfortable treating chronic pain conditions including those associated with grief, trauma recovery, fibromyalgia, rheumatoid conditions, autoimmune disorders and headaches. People who suffer from injury and pain may benefit from this gentle hands-on treatment approach. More information about the J.F.B. Myofascial Release approach is available at: www.myofascialrelease.com

Kate obtained certification in the McKenzie Mechanical Diagnosis and Treatment (cert. MDT) method for care of the spine and extremities. She incorporates this and other methods to help people recover from neck or back problems including radiating pain in the arms or legs and other general discomforts in the peripheral joints. More information about the McKenzie Method is available at: www.mckenziemdt.org

“As a physician, I have referred many patients to Kate Huckert, DPT over the years.  Her skill as a therapist is excellent.  She has cured many of my patients of various ailments, including low back pain, rotator cuff injuries and sciatica.  Kate is continually striving to learn more to help her patients and to teach other providers, such as myself.  I recommend Kate Huckert enthusiastically!”

Dr. Heather Kahn, M.D.

Rogue Medicine

“My doctor sent me originally to Kate Huckert for relief from headaches.  Kate is the only one locally that seems to use the myofascial work to relieve the symptoms.  I was totally blown away with the results—I have never had any results like that!  Now she works with my entire body, working to create a “flow” that allows everything to move through it, and the headaches now are not coming back as often. Her comfortable and private clinic is situated in a lovely wooded area and adds to the serenity of the treatments.  I recommend Kate to everyone I know—she is amazing!”

Joan G.

Retired School Teacher

“Having recently underwent a total knee replacement, Kate physically and mentally prepared me for a seamless recovery postoperatively.  Her whole body approach has made a huge difference in my life.  I am grateful for my experience with Kate and Meta Physical Therapy & Pilates.”

Kathleen P.

“I came to Kate originally for a knee injury.  With her expertise, she facilitated the healing process through myofascial release.  Along the way, she guided me to understand alignment, correct posture, the value of core strength which will go a long way to encourage better health and better movement for a lifetime.  She is very knowledgeable and capable.  I would highly recommend her.  Thanks, Kate!! ”

Chris M.

“I have worked with Kate to heal from back & neck pain, shoulder pain, hip replacement and improve overall body wellness.  The work she does and the results achieved have been miraculous.  I have sent her many of my family and friends, and they have all said the same…she’s amazing!”

Margene M.

“I went to Meta Physical Therapy & Pilates because of my many physical ailments. Kate’s personal attention is multipurpose. I originally came for a visit to recover mobility after a broken arm incident. After the initial evaluation, I found that she could help me in so many other ways. I have cut down on pain medications. I fall less. I have more confidence in my balance and physical abilities. I have been treated for so many chronic pains, from neck stress to neuropathy. She listens and her treatments are effective. I have Chronic pain, Autoimmune disorder and balance issues. I need physical help to solve or control my ailments and not a medication to mask a problem that could lead to surgery.

“Kate Huckert provides one on one treatment. I can come in with severe back or shoulder pain, and come out of just one session pain free. I also leave with additional information to stop my pain from escalating and a plan to strengthen areas of my body to avoid stressing weak parts of my body. Her solution is unique as I find comfort and care without invasive surgeries or medication. I recover faster. I save money.

“I highly recommend Kate Huckert at Meta Physical Therapy & Pilates. Thanks to Kate, I have a better quality of life. I spend less money in doctor visits. I get properly diagnosed and treated.  I spend less money on medications, tests, x-rays and even prolong if not eliminate need for surgeries by using alternative treatment and exercises instead.  Now I live a healthier, happier, managed pain free lifestyle thanks to Kate and her continued care.”

Griselda M.

“I rely on Kate at Meta Physical Therapy & Pilates to keep me in best physical shape for my age and to keep me doing the activities I enjoy. She works with me to stay in the budget that I can afford, and I am able to submit my bills for insurance reimbursement. Kate also gives me plenty of exercises to do on my own to help me stay injury and pain free at home.”

Laurie N.

“I was referred to Kate by a friend because I was having terrible pain in my right shoulder and my neck was so out of place that I barely had movement from side to side.  I was living on 800 to 1000 mg of Ibuprofen twice daily because of the accompanying headaches.  After just a few sessions, I began to have movement in my neck and no pain in my shoulder.  She is also helping me with back problems that have been causing leg pain.  I recommend Kate because I have great faith in her abilities.  She has an instinctive knowledge of how the body flows and how all areas interact with other parts of the body.  Not only do I consider Kate a “Miracle Worker” but feel that she is a friend who has a warm heart, strong hands and a caring soul.  Thank you, Kate, for your dedication, expertise and encouragement.”

Carmella T.

“I came to Kate for help with a chronic ache/numbness in my left arm and occasional pain in my upper back. I’ve been to chiropractors and massage therapists for years, but could never solve the issue. Kate was able to quickly identify the source of the problem and after a few visits, I’ve experienced significant improvement. Kate is extremely knowledgeable in her field and listens carefully to her patients before recommending a course of treatment. I highly recommend Kate!”

Barry S.

“I came to Kate a few months ago with what I was told was a hopeless case of frozen shoulder. I had been to other physical therapists and felt as though I had plateaued, so I came to Kate as sort of a “Hail Mary.” Kate has so many well-honed Tools in her bag, it’s hard to describe. She not only did the normal joint manipulation, but also the soft tissue, got my muscles to work and actually got my whole body and mind involved with healing my shoulder. Her gentle demeanor, kindness and understanding of how all this stuff works together has given me a renewed sense of enthusiasm for my complete recovery. I am actually looking forward to playing my saxophone again.”

I am a patient of Miriam @ Asante rehabilitation in Medford and she advised me that you may be able to help me with my lower spine issue in advance of surgery. I was unable to leave a message on your phone at this time. Thanks

    Hi, Kate,
I called last week and left a message to tell you that I will not be able to keep my appointment on March 17th.
I just want to be sure you received it so you can book someone else for that spot.

I loved a chance to see you again at the beginning of the month. You are a magical healer.
Take care of yourself as well as the rest of us.
    All best wishes,
    Mary

Kate is absolutely amazing. I’ve had several injuries/illnesses over the last couple years and she has helped me SO much more than any medication could. She is a true healer, not just doing a job. Let Kate change your life! You won’t regret it for a second.

A few years ago I injured my back. It was a minor injury but still required Physical Therapy to address the residual pain. It took years before I found Kate & I’m so glad I did. Her manual manipulation was just what my back needed to heal. Kate is so kind, patient, and thorough who can treat even the most stubborn issues that have resisted other treatments.

I have been to physical therapy sessions before that were no where near as helpful as one visit with Kate! I walked out with temporary relief of my discomfort that subsequently settled at 80% with just the one visit, and cannot wait to return for another session! Very kind and helpful and you will know that she cares about you by her demeanor and conversation during your visit.
